Coker Picks up Non-conference Win at Chowan

MURFREESBORO, N.C.- Coker women's lacrosse picked up a non-conference win on Wednesday (April 13) when they defeated Chowan 16-9.

The Cobras lit the lamp first at the 22:14 mark of the first half on Mackenzie Baker's first of four goals on the afternoon. Goals from Faith Kent and Karah Huntsinger stretched the Coker lead to 3-1, before two separate multi-goal runs gave the Cobras an 8-3 lead at halftime. Goals from Haley McCusker, Claudia Jenkins and Baker put the visitors up 6-2, before Coker closed out the half with back-to-back goals from Marabeth Durden and Cierra Davis.

The Cobras run continued into the second half as Kent, Jenkins and Durden would score the first three goals of the frame putting Coker up 11-3. Jenkins and Baker would counter three consecutive goals by scoring back-to-back just 15 seconds apart. Coker would finish out the game with goals from Jenkins, Kent and McCusker to put the game out of reach.

Baker tallied four goals and two assists on the afternoon, whileJenkins and Kent each tallied hat tricks, Kent also dished out three assists. Durden and McCusker each found the back of the net twice, and Cierra Davis and Karah Huntsinger each scored once.

Cassie Dodge (7-6) made 11 saves in the win.

The Cobras return home on Saturday (April 16) when they host Queens. Opening draw is set for 6:00 p.m. at the Coker College athletic field. Tickets for the game are $5 for adults, $3 for students and free to all Coker faculty, staff and students.
