Coker's Durden Named AstroTurf SAC Player of the Week

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – Coker College women's lacrosse player Marabeth Durden has been named the AstroTurf South Atlantic Conference Women's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced today. This is Durden's second POTW award this season.

Durden led Coker to a 2-1 week, which included a 12-9 win over CSU-Pueblo and 19-11 win over Erskine College. She posted four points on the week, while picking up 14 ground balls, collecting six draw controls and causing four turnovers. She scooped up seven ground balls and caused two turnovers to go along with two goals against CSU-Pueblo. She followed that up with two ground balls, three draw controls and one goal and an assist against Erskine. She closed out the week with five ground balls, two draw controls and two caused turnovers against Catawba College.

Durden ranks fourth in the SAC with 18 caused turnovers, 13th in ground balls (36) and 16th in draw controls (26). She has also scored 13 goals and dished out three assists for 16 points on the season.

A sophomore defender from Orlando, Fla., Durden is an education major with a concentration in early childhood education. She is the daughter of Mitzi and Karl Sheppard and Michael and Lisa Durden.
