Coker Captures 15-5 Inaugural Win at Young Harris

YOUNG HARRIS, GA. – The Coker women's lacrosse team picked up the first win of their inaugural season this Saturday (Feb. 22) when they defeated Young Harris 15-5 in a nonconference competition.  With the win, the Cobras improve to 1-1 on the year.

The Navy and Yellow got off to a hot start as they scored nine unanswered goals in the first half to take a 9-0 lead into the locker room.  Young Harris would respond in the second half by scoring two goals, but Coker quickly ended the run after they scored two goals of their own.  The two teams would go on to exchange a total of seven more goals in the final 30 minutes, but Coker's explosive offense was too much for the Mountain Lions to overcome as the Cobras preserved the historical win.

Mackenzie Baker had an offensive field day for Coker as she went on to score five goals and took control of eight draws.  Hayley Ferone and Shannon Jessop added three goals apiece, while Danielle Holcomb tallied two goals of her own.  Ashlyn Burgett dished out a team leading four assists and scored one goal along with Lindsay Ordemann

Coker will continue their journey on the road as they travel to face Chowan on Wednesday (Feb. 26).  Game time is set for a 5:00 p.m. start time.
