Swedes lead Coker to victory!

WILSON, NC -- Sophomore Daniella Gyoni and freshman Felicia Sundgren finished one-two Tuesday in the Barton Intercollegiate Golf Tournament to power the Coker women's golf team to their second team victory of the season.

With the two Swedes leading the way, Coker posted a 36-hole total of 59-over par and cruised to a 31-shot win over runner-up Emory & Henry. Mount Olive finished third at 96-over par, host Barton was fourth at 101-over and UNC Pembroke placed fifth at plus-109. The Methodist University B and C teams round out the scoring in the seven-team field.
"Playing in cold and windy conditions, our ladies, who were coached by assistant Dan Schmotzer, really fought hard this week to secure the win," Coker head coach John Hackney said. "Wilson Country Club is a tight course with OB on both sides of 15 holes, so you have to hit it straight, which we did with much more regularity than the other teams. We also made 11 birdies on Monday, which was awesome. The team averaged 10 fairways and 32 putts as well, which is excellent!
"Felicia really had a nice event, showing she is now ready for college golf, and Daniella hit every fairway and 14-of-18 greens on Tuesday en route to medalist honors."
Gyoni won at 77-76--153. Sundgren, who joined the team in January, shot 75-79--154. Coker junior Haylie George placed 8th at 82-83--165, senior Mack Taylor Bailey came in 12th at 79-88--167 and junior Kelly Campman finished 14th at 85-84--169.
In Monday's opening round, the Cobras were on point with their short game in racing to a big lead. Sundgren had five up-and-downs when missing greens, Bailey was 6-of-8 from off the green and Campman made three saves from off the green.
"I am just really proud of this group," Hackney said. "They are working hard and it is paying off. When we are firing on all cylinders, we can compete with almost any team."
