Coker Women's Golf Sets 54-hole record!

McCORMICK, SC -- The Coker women's golf team continues to shatter records.

Playing at the Monticello Golf Club in the Savannah Lakes Invitational on Tuesday, the Cobras notched five rounds in the 70s en route to 15-over par 303. That, combined with rounds of 302 and 314 on Sunday and Monday, established a new school 54-hole record at 919, bettering the previous mark by seven shots!
Freshman Gisele Morna of Portugal also set a new 54-hole individual record for Coker after firing rounds of 69-75-78--- 222, bettering the mark set last season by grad student Kathleen Escobar by one shot. Morna, who was battling a bad back, sank a 20-foot birdie putt on the last hole to set the record. She placed 11th of 81 golfers.
Led by Swedish sophomore Daniella Gyoni's 1-over 73 on Tuesday, Coker finished 8th of 14 teams in a strong field that included a number of top 20 NCAA DII teams. Wingate and Limestone finished in a tie for first.
California senior Mack Taylor Bailey shot 76, Myrtle Beach junior Kelly Campman fired a front-nine 36 on her way to a 77, and junior Haylie George (Chapel Hill, NC) also shot 77. Gyoni and Campman matched their collegiate low rounds.
"Our ladies really played well in the first and last rounds of this event," Coker head coach John Hackney said. "I was especially pleased that we had all five players shoot in the 70s today, which is a first in school history. Our chemistry is excellent and they are getting better every day. When we play our best, we can hang with some pretty strong teams."
All facets one Gyoni's game were on-point Tuesday, especially on the back nine, when she shot a 2-under 34. She hit 12-of-14 fairways, 13-of-18 greens, was 5-of-7 in up-and-downs, and needed just 27 putts. She chipped in on the final hole for her third birdie of the day.
Bailey hit 11-of-14 fairways, 13-of-18 greens and got up and down 4-of-5 times when missing a green. Campman, who had a career-low 29 putts, chipped in once and George chipped in twice.
"This group of Cobras is making remarkable strides in their games," Hackney said. "They are having fun and it's fun to watch how much better they are getting every week!"
