White named SAC Elite 20 Winner on Final Day of SAC Championships

HARTSVILLE, S.C.- The Coker University women's golf team wrapped up it's spring season today at Hartsville Country Club where they played the final round of the South Atlantic Conference Tournament Championships with senior Jordan White earning the prestigious SAC Elite 20 Award.

Coker finished 10th as a team, shooting a 975 (+111) over three round of play.

Lora Ledbetter led the way for the Cobras as she shot a 241 (+25) total, while Jordan White shot a 242 (+26) total. Katie Smith shot a 245 (+29), Jena Werle shot a 253 (+37) and Haylie George shot a 256 (+40).

"I think our ladies felt a lot of pressure playing for the SAC title this week in front of their family and friends on our home course, but we need to get used to that kind of pressure as we ramp up our lineup and get prepared to be in contention at golf tournaments," said Head Coach John Hackney.

After the final round, Senior Jordan White was awarded the prestigious SAC Elite 20 Award. The award is given out to the student-athlete competing in the conference championships with the highest grade point average. White, The Myrtle Beach, S.C. native has a perfect 4.0 gpa while majoring in Communications.

"We have one of the smartest academic golf teams in the country and we were thrilled that senior Jordan White, a 4.0 student, earned the SAC's highest student-athlete golf honor, the Elite 20 Award -- much to the delight of her coaches, all her teammates, family and friends -- at the ceremony after play ended today. What an accomplishment!"

This wraps up the women's golf 2021-2022 season. Hackney is very optimistic on the future of his young Cobra team.

"It was an emotional time after the round as we said goodbye to four-year starter Jordan White, Mackenzie Mulkiewicz and junior Katie Smith (who plans to forego her senior season to student-teach, then go to work). We were just not very consistent this season, but it wasn't for lack of effort. Our ladies practiced hard and spent a lot of time in the weight room with our Strength and Conditioning Coach, Joe Kammerer. With the addition of some talented recruits, we expect to make inroads toward the top of the South Atlantic Conference standings. We are in a very strong league, so we look forward to making that move."

"I would like to thank all of my Coker collegues, SAC Associate Commissioner Christian Stryker and Paul Brown and is phenominal staff at Hartsville Country Club for staging a sensational championship that drew rave reviews," said Hackney.
