Women's Golf Completes Play at Converse Spring Invitational

SPARTANBURG, S.C.- The Coker University women's golf team completed play at the Converse Spring Invitational yesterday (March 8), the ladies placed seventh overall.

"I thought the ladies had a solid week under the tutelage of assistant Coach Dan Schmotzer," head coach John Hackney said. "To be in fifth place after the first round was new territory for most of them, thanks in large part to a fabulous round of 1-over par 73 by senior captain Jordan White. That was the third-best round of the tournament. The ladies got off to a hot start today and were just 13-over par after nine holes and climbing the leaderboard, but we didn't score well on the back nine and shot 29-over."

The Lady Cobras fired rounds of 325-330-655 to place seventh of 15 teams. Coker was just 15 back of second place while Lander ran away with the team title at 612.
White finished tied for 7th place at 73-82-155. Junior Jenna Werle, who shot 82 Monday, carded two birdies on the front nine 38 Tuesday before finishing at 82, good for 26th place.
Maggie Jennings Campbell (86-83-169), Lora Ledbetter (85-85-170) and Katie Smith (87-83-170) rounded out the Coker scoring. Senior Mackenzie Mulkiewicz, playing as an individual, posted an 86-96-182 for the Lady Cobras.
"We are making some steady progress," Coach Hackney said. "It was awesome to see the ladies beat half the field. I was excited to see how we started today, but we just need to settle in and close the deal on the back nine and we will beat a lot of teams. These are some incredible young ladies who can post good numbers when they are focused, so we are excited to see what happens next week at the Jerry Surratt Memorial, hosted by Wingate at Stonebridge Golf Club in Monroe."
