Women's Golf in Fifth after Day One of the Chick-fil-A Collegiate Invitational

ROME, Ga. - The Coker University women's golf team completed first round play of the Chick-fil-A Collegiate Invitational on Monday (Oct. 25)  at Coosa Country Club in Rome, Georgia.

Coker was led by freshman Lora Ledbetter and junior Katie Smith, who both posted rounds of 79 (+7). Smith would also record two birdies during her round. Their scores were good enough for a tie for 19th individually after round one. Freshman Lindsay Cote played a solid round of golf, carding a score of 82 (+10) and landing in a tie for 32nd place. Senior Jordan White and freshman Kelly Campman recorded rounds of 87 (+15) and 89 (+17) respectively.

The Cobras posted a team score of 327 (+39) to put them in 5th place amongst the field of 17 teams.

"We are higher up the leaderboard after the first round than we've been all season at a fifth place so that is awesome!" said head coach John Hackney. "We came out of the gate slowly today and wound up with 14 double bogeys which led to a much higher than desirable team score, but I think a lot of that was attributable to struggling with speed on the greens and too many three-putts. Katie had a solid day and was the only player on our team to make a birdie. She had two. Lora got off to a great start, making eight pars for a 38 on the front nine and grinded it out on the back to join Katie at 79. Lindsay was having a respectable day before back-to-back doubles on her last nine, but she did reel it in and finish strong. We hit the ball so well in the practice round and hit some beautiful shots at times today. If we come out and play with confidence, stay positive and get a better grip on the speed of the greens, we could have a record day tomorrow."
