Women’s Golf Finishes Round One of SAC Preview

HARTSVILLE, S.C. - The Coker women's golf team opened up their fall season with the first round of the South Atlantic Conference Preview at Hartsville Country Club on Monday (Sept. 13).

Junior Katie Smith led the way for the Cobras as she carded a 79 (+7) on the par 72 layout including ten pars, and a birdie on the par five 9th hole. Fellow St. James High School graduate, senior Jordan White, followed Smith with a solid round of 83 (+11). White's round included nine pars and birdies on the par five 2nd hole and the par four 4th hole. Freshman Haylie George contributed a score of 84 (+12) in her first round as a collegiate golfer.

"I thought everything went smoothly today. Hartsville Country Club is in excellent condition and drew rave reviews from the teams. Our team is young and our four freshmen were really nervous in their first college outing. We hit some good shots and had some good holes but unfortunately had some big numbers. We have a great bunch of ladies, so I expect them to play much better in round two. It should be an exciting day since so many teams are close to the lead!" said head coach John Hackney

Overall the Cobras shot a team score of 333 (+45), landing them in 6th place after round one. The tournament will conclude with round two on Tuesday (Sept. 14). Scoring and results are available at cokercobras.com
