Women's Basketball Claims First Victory of the Season over UNC Pembroke

Wingate, N.C. - Coker University Women's Basketball team picked up their first win of the season on Friday (Nov. 11th) with a 63-51 win over UNC Pembroke.

Coker played neck and neck with UNC Pembroke, until the second quarter where they were able to extend their lead by three points. The Cobras would take a 30-27 lead into half-time.

Coker stretched its lead to six in the third quarter. Even though the lead would fluctuate throughout the rest of the second half, the Cobras never lost it and held it until the last horn.

The Cobras shot 34.5 percent from the field in the game, including 37.5 percent from beyond the arc (12-32). Abigail Keesling finished with a game-high fourteen points, to lead the Cobras. Kristynn Knight (10) and Dominique Rodriguez (13) also scored in double figures, while six others also contributed points in the game. Coker outworked UNC Pembroke (33-30) in defensive rebounds, led by Valicia Demeritte with seven while seven others were active on the glass. Abigail Keesling posted eight assists throughout the game, followed by Dasia Lambert (2), Dominique Rodriguez (2), Shawnteanna Tillman (2), and Ashauntee Nelson (1). Dominique Rodriguez and Ashauntee Nelson led the team with two steals individually, while two others brought in one apiece. Diamond Jackson had a game-high of three blocks for the Cobras in the win.

The Cobras (1-0) will return to the court on Saturday (Nov. 12th) against Francis Marion University in the Conference Challenge. Tip-off is set for 5:00 PM, with video and live stats posted at www.cokercobras.com
