Women's Basketball Falls to Tusculum on Saturday

HARTSVILLE, S.C. - Coker University women's basketball fell to Tusculum on Saturday (Jan. 15) in South Atlantic Conference action by a score of 64-45.

Tusculum jumped out to leads early in the period, while Coker would battle back to get within two possessions, while Tusculum took a 17-10 lead to the second quarter.

The teams would battle through the second quarter bucket-for-bucket, before the Cobras got back within under two minutes to play in the frame. Abigail Keesling sunk a three-pointer with 1:19 left in the half as the teams went to the locker room with Tusculum leading 28-23. The Cobras were able to win the frame 13-10.

Tusculum was able to find their offensive groove in the second half to pull away for the conference victory.

Saquita Joyner led the way for Coker with 14 points, while seven other Cobras contributed points in the game. Valicia Demeritte, Joyner and Mariah Mitchem each pulled down a team-high five rebounds, while five other Cobras were active on the glass in the game. Ashauntee Nelson and Mitchem each dished out two assists, while Joyner, Keesling and Jaiha Williams each had one. Nelson recorded a team-high two steals in the game, while four others each recorded one steal. Demeritte posted two blocks in the game, while Nelson and Haley McClure each had one.

The Cobras return to action on Monday (Jan. 17) at Carson-Newman in South Atlantic Conference action. Tip-off is set for 12:00 p.m. from Jefferson City, Tenn., with video and live stats available at www.cokercobras.com.
