Women's Basketball Falls in Season Opener at UNC Pembroke

PEMBROKE, N.C. - The Coker University women's basketball team fell in its season opener at UNC Pembroke on Friday (Nov. 12) by a score of 66-51.

UNC Pembroke jumped out to an early lead in the first quarter, taking a 14-5 lead to the second. Each team scored 18 points in the second quarter, as UCNP led 32-23 at the half.

UNC Pembroke increased the lead in the third quarter, before Coker would out-score UNCP 20-19 in the fourth quarter to bring the game to its final score.

Ahlea Myers and Raya Coley each finished with a team-high 12 points, while Abigail Keesling chipped in six points and Hope Richardson, Mya Wasswa and Dasia Lambert each had five. Valicia Demeritte had four points for Coker, while Saquita Joyner also had two. Joyner led the rebounding effort with 10 boards, while Richardson had eight and Myers, Keesling and lambert each pulled down five. Wasswa registered four boards, while Diamond Jackson had two and Demeritte and Mariah Mitchem each had one. Myers dished out two assists in the game, while six others each helped on one Coker bucket apiece. Four different Cobras recorded steals in the game, while Richardson and Lambert each had two blocks and Jackson also had one.  

The Cobras return to action tomorrow (Saturday, Nov. 13) to face Francis Marion on the second day of the conference challenge. Tip-off is set for 4:00 p.m. from Pembroke, N.C. with video and live stats available at www.cokercobras.com.
