Cobras Earn Pivotal Conference Victory Over Wolves

HARTSVILLE, S.C. - The Coker College women's basketball team scored 22 points off of 22 turnovers to propel themselves to a 60-49 victory over Newberry on Wednesday (Jan. 3) afternoon in South Atlantic Conference action. Coker improved to 6-6 overall and 3-3 in SAC play with the victory.

The Cobras trailed 26-23 at halftime, and used an 11-1 run to start the second half to take control of the game. Janea Williams, Caitland Considine, Hayley Kropp, Hannah Stull, and Erin Houser all tallied buckets during the run. Next, Newberry went on to cut the Coker lead to just one point with 8:01 remaining in the game. However, the Navy and Gold responded with a 19-9 run to finish the game and secure the pivotal conference victory. 

Houser led the way for the Cobras, scoring 16 points, and adding seven rebounds and two steals. Kropp scored 15 points, and Caitland Consindine scored 10 points with four rebounds and four assists. 

Coker played excellent defense throughout the contest, holding Newberry to 35.3 percent shooting from the field, and just 25 percent from behind the three-point line. 

The Cobras will be back in action on Saturday (Jan. 6) when they travel to Lincoln Memorial to take on the Railsplitters in a South Atlantic Conference contest. Opening tip is set for 2 p.m.
