Cobras Drop Road Contest at Barton

WILSON, N.C. – The Coker College women's basketball team dropped a non-conference game on the road against the Barton College Bulldogs 81-71 in overtime on Tuesday (Nov. 14) evening. 

After a slow start in the first quarter, the Cobras came out firing on all cylinders and outscored the Bulldogs 21-9 in the second frame of play. The Navy and Gold used a seven-point scoring streak midway through the second quarter to bring themselves within three of Barton. Hayley Kropp drained a three ball and Iresha Cooper delivered two layups for the seven-point run. 

Coker continued to chip away at Barton's lead and eventually took a 61-58 lead with 6:26 remaining in regulation. The Cobras grabbed the lead with another three ball from Kropp, a layup from Cooper, and a jumper by Erin Houser. The Bulldogs went on to even the score at 65 at the end of the fourth quarter and captured the victory in overtime. 

Kropp led the Cobras on the offensive end with 19 points, followed Cooper who recorded 18 and Houser who knocked down 15. On the boards, Janea Williams led Coker with 12 rebounds and added three blocks. 

The Cobras will be back in action for their home opener on Saturday (Nov. 18) when they take on Fayetteville State at 2 p.m.
