HARTSVILLE, S.C.- The Coker women's basketball team fell in its South Atlantic Conference opener to Catawba 84-63 on Tuesday (Nov. 22)

The Cobras faced a 25-17 deficit after one quarter, with Sydney Shull shooting perfect and scoring six points in the frame.  In the frame, Coker was able to erase a 17-11 Indians lead and get the game tied at 17, before a late surge by the Indians gave them the lead at the break. Lindsey Adams also got five points in the opening 10 minutes. The Cobras played a tight second quarter, but still trailed 46-33 at the break.

In the third quarter, Shull and Iresha Cooper each scored five points as Coker failed to trim into the deficit. Trailing heavily going to the fourth, Coker was able to match Catawba's 16 points, but a stout effort from the free throw line by the visiting team kept the game at a distance.

Shull totaled a team-high 16 in the loss, along with Adams's 14 and Cooper's nine to lead the effort. The Cobras were able to control the offensive glass, out-rebounding the Indians 15-8. The home team also forced 27 Catawba turnovers.

The Cobras will take a break for the Thanksgiving holiday and then travel to Augusta University for a non-conference contest next Tuesday (Nov. 29).
