Evans Scores 20, As Cobras Defeat Crusaders 75-63

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – Jasmine Evans capped off the regular season with 20-points on Friday (Mar. 1), as the Cobras defeated Belmont Abbey 75-63 in a Conference Carolinas competition.  With the win Coker advances to 18-10 on the year, and 14-8 in league play.   

Belmont Abbey hit a three to start the game, but that was the only time they would lead during the competition.  The Cobras would respond by going on an 8-3 run to take the lead in the early minutes.   At the five minute mark Coker led the Crusaders 31-23, but Belmont Abbey would go on a 6-2 run to end the first half cutting the Cobra lead to just six (35-29) at the break. 

Coker jumped all over the Crusaders at the start of the second half by going on a 14-6 run.  At the 11-minute mark the Cobras lead the game 51-39.

The Crusaders however, battled back and cut the lead to just four (65-61).  With just 1:30 left in regulation, the navy and yellow took complete control by scoring ten more points to take a double-digit lead and preserve the win.

Joining Evans in double-figures was Angie Lawrence (15), Autumn Lau (14), and Theresa Jackson-Henderson (10).  Lau and Jackson-Henderson also had the team high with six rebounds each.

As a team the Cobras scored 21-points off of 16 Crusader turnovers, and earned 13 fast break points.  Coker shot 44-percent (29-of-65) from the field, and collected 34-rebounds.

Coker has secured home court advantage for the conference tournament, and will start post-season play on Tuesday (Mar. 5) against Mount Olive in the Timberlake-Lawton gymnasium starting at 7:00 p.m.
