Georgia College Takes Down Coker 67-57

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – Sophomore Angie Lawrence scored a career high 24 points for the Cobras in their 67-57 loss to the Georgia College and State University Bobcats on Monday (Dec. 31) afternoon. The loss is only the third of the season for the Coker women's basketball team, dropping them to 7-3 on the season.

In extremely hard fought and close game from start to finish, the Cobras opened the game with a 9-2 run. The Bobcats countered with a 15-3 run of their own to take a 17-12 lead with nine minutes remaining in the first half. Coker was unable to regain the lead, but trailed by just two points, 32-30, at the break.

The Cobras came out of the locker room ready to play and quickly mounted a 40-34 lead in the first three minutes of the second half. Coker clung to a narrow lead until the 8:50 mark when the Bobcats took a 46-45 advantage and never looked back. The Cobras stayed within striking distance for the remainder of the game, but they were unable to get the baskets to fall. As a team the Cobras shot 36.4 percent from the floor and had 34 rebounds.

Individually, Lawrence finished the game with 24 points and three rebounds, while Amber Lau knocked down 10 points with five rebounds and four assists. Autumn Lau added seven points with four rebounds and Hailey Yohn had six points, three steals and four rebounds.

The Cobras will return to the friendly confines of Timberlake-Lawton Gymnasium for their next game on Thursday (Jan. 3). Coker will host Erskine College in a Conference Carolinas double-header. The women tip-off at 5:30 p.m. followed by the men at 7:30 p.m.
