CHARLOTTE, N.C.- – The Queens women’s basketball team rebounded from a tough two-point loss at Anderson five days ago with a convincing Conference Carolinas win over the Coker Cobras in the 2010 Homecoming game at the Grady Cole Center. The Royals (13-11/12-7 CC) defeated the Cobras (3-22/2-18 CC) by a sound score of 76-48.

The game was all Queens from the get-go. Queens took the lead from Coker for a final time when Cecilia Tchangoue (St. Jean Le Blanc, France) made a putback and the Royals went up13-12.

The win was an all-around team effort for Queens with every player who entered the game scoring points and the team out rebounding Coker by 21 boards (47-26).

Marissa Hudley (Charlotte, N.C.) led the Royals with 18 points and 16 rebounds. The rebounding effort marks Hudley’s best all season and finishes her double-double for her 10th of the year. Shakaria Hamlin (Hartsville, S.C.) added 16 points and eight boards.

At the midpoint Queens was up 34-23. Of Coker’s 23 points Henna Koponen (Vantaa, Finland) 14, Keisha Beavers (Williamstown, N.J.) added six and Heidi Rienstra (Brockbville, Ontario) put up three. Koponen finished the game with 21 points and four rebounds and Beavers had eight points.

Queens’ defense forced 19 turnovers and converted turnovers into 22 points.

The Lady Cobras host their last regular season game at home on Wednesday night against Pfeiffer University. The game, which is Senior Night, starts at 5:30 p.m.
