LAURINBURG, N.C. – For the 11th consecutive time the Coker women’s basketball lost to a Conference Carolinas opponent, this time it was a 81-69 loss to St. Andrews Presbyterian College on Wednesday night. The loss drops the Lady Cobras to 2-17 overall and 1-13 in the conference, while the Lady Knights improved to 2-14 overall and 1-12 in the conference with the win.

Coker clung to a marginal one point lead after the first half, 34-33, but a 48 point outburst by St. Andrews in the second half led the Knights to their first Conference Carolinas victory of the season.  To make the win even more impressive St. Andrews did it with just six players.

The Lady Cobras were not without their share of impressive performances on the night as Henna Koponen (Vantaa, Finland) and Kiesha Beavers (Williamstown, N.J.) each cracked the 20 point mark with Koponen netting a team high 22 points and Beavers dropping in 20 points. Beavers also dished out a team high five assists, while Jasmine Alston (Sumter, S.C.) pulled down a game high 11 rebounds.

St. Andrews had four of their six players reach double digit points, with Megan Lee scoring a game high 28 points, while Brittany Roberts had a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds. Kayla Hay put 18 points in the basket, followed by Jaquese Smith with 12 points and eight assists. Essence Chism came up just shy of the double-double with nine points and 10 rebounds.

Coker returns home for their next game on Saturday, Feb. 6, as they host Converse College in a 2:00 p.m. match-up, while St. Andrews travels to Banner Elk, N.C. to take on Lees-McRae.
