Hartsville, S.C. – Four players for Queens University of Charlotte scored in double figures, as the Royals blew past the Coker Lady Cobras with ease in a Conference Carolinas women’s basketball showdown on Saturday afternoon in the Timberlake-Lawton Gymnasium. The loss drops the Coker women to 2-7 overall and 1-3 in the conference, while Queens improves to 4-6 overall and 3-2 in conference play with the win.

Ashley McGurit (Indian Trail, N.C.) set the pace for Queens with a game high 19 points, while Hartsville native Shakaria Hamlin made the best of her return home with a 16 point performance. McGuirt and Hamlin each added six and five rebounds respectively. Marissa Hudley (Charlotte, N.C.) showed why she is the Royals leading scorer and rebounder on the year, putting up a double-double with 11 points and 15 rebounds, while Dyonna Battle (Rocky Mount, N.C.) gave Queens 11 points off the bench.

Kiesha Beavers (Williamstown, N.J.) lead the Lady Cobra offensive with nine points and four rebounds, with Cassie Kirby (Charlottesville, Va.) chipping in eight points and Joanna Tyndall (Dunn, N.C.) scoring seven points for Coker. All three of Coker’s leading scorers came off the bench, with 33 points total coming off the bench.

Queens dominated the floor in the first half of play, taking a sizable 43-23 lead into the locker room, including shooting 50 percent from the floor and 88.9 percent from the charity stripe. The Coker defense did pick up in the second half, holding the Royals to just 34.4 percent from the floor to give them a 42. 4 percent game from the field. On the other side of the ball, Coker shot just 33.3 percent from the floor for the game and was out-rebounded 49-23.

The Lady Cobras return to the court on Monday, when they travel to Misenhiemer, N.C. to face Pfeiffer University at 5:30 p.m., while Queens travels to St. Andrews also on Monday at 5:30 p.m.
