Rock Hill, S.C. – The Lady Cobras basketball team lost a tough game on Tuesday night to division I Winthrop University 58-47. Coker held a five point lead at halftime, but a strong second half by the Eagles dropped the Lady Cobras to 0-2 on their young season.

Kiesha Beavers (Williamstown, N.J.) led the Coker offense with 15 points and six rebounds, while Henna Koponen (Vantaa, Finland) had a double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds on the night.

Winthrop’s Shanice Cole led all scorers with 18 points, while adding eight rebounds. Jessica Fansler also scored in double figures, dropping in 13 points.

It was an extremely even games, with neither team shooting exceptionally well from the floor; Coker shot just 33.3 percent, with Winthrop shooting 35.2 percent. Both teams committed over 20 turnovers, while the Eagles held the advantage on the boards, grabbing 46 rebounds compared to Coker’s 32.

Coker returns to the floor on Saturday, Nov. 21, as they travel to Florence, S.C. to take on cross-town rival Francis Marion University at 2:00 p.m.
