WILSON, NC — A poor first half proved to be too much for Coker to overcome in a 65-50 loss at Barton Tuesday night in women’s collegiate basketball.  The Cobras are now 4-10 overall and 1-6 in the conference while the Bulldogs improve to 6-6 and 5-2 in the CVAC.

CC fell behind early and never led in the game, with Barton building a 9-2 advantage in the first five minutes of action.  Barton pushed the lead to double digits after 10 minutes of play and eventually took their largest lead of the first period just before the buzzer for a 43-21 halftime lead.

The margin ballooned as high as 30 points on two occasions in the second half but the Cobras scored the last seven points of the game to close the final margin to fifteen.  Coker shot 36 percent for the game while the Bulldogs hit at a 43 percent clip.  Barton held a 42-36 advantage on the boards and forced 23 CC turnovers.

Senior Shamae Hemingway/Conway, SC scored 14 points and pulled down six rebounds and India Elliott/Faison, NC added eight points.  Senior Michelle Glover/Beaufort, SC hadsix points and a team-high eight boards.

Kelly Lamotta led three BC players in double-digit scoring with 12 points and Keauna Vinson picked up 14 rebounds.  Shannon Finis tallied 11 points, six rebounds and six assists.

The Cobras are off now until Saturday, January 22, when they travel to Belmont Abbey for a 4:00 PM start against the Crusaders.
