HARTSVILLE, SC – Coker dug a hole too large to get out of in the first half of their contest against Mt. Olive Thursday night and fell 71-60 in women’s collegiate basketball.  The Cobras are now 4-8 overall and 1-4 in the CVAC, while Mt. Olive moves to 7-4, 5-0 in the conference.

The Cobras managed only 27 percent shooting in the first half and had difficulty slowing down the Trojans up-tempo attack.  In a 8:59 span of the period the Cobras scored only four points and found themselves trailing 36-14 with a minute to play.  CC rallied to score the final five points before the break and went to the locker room with a 36-19 deficit.

Mt. Olive pushed its advantage to 25 points on three occasions in the second half but Coker warmed up in the final minutes to significantly lessen the final margin.  The Cobras shot 47 percent in the second period and connected on 14-17 free-throw attempts.

Sophomore India Elliott/Faison, NC and Freshman Tyesha Ervin/Darlington, NC both finished with 15 points, leading CC.  Ervin also had six rebounds, a steal, and blocked a shot, but turned the ball over five times against the sticky Trojan defense.  Seniors Shamae Hemingway/Conway, SC and Michelle Glover/Beaufort, SC each had eight points.

Latoria Harvey’s 15 points and eight rebounds paced MOC, while Ladora Charles and LeAnn Simms both tallied 12 points.  Teneal Boone grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds and Keona Corley had a whopping six steals.

The Cobras will now host St. Andrews on Monday, January 17, at 2:00 PM.
