HARTSVILLE, SC – Coker controlled its game against Allen University from the tip Wednesday night and rolled to an 82-48 victory in women’s collegiate basketball.  The Cobras even their record to 2-2 on the year and will next host Anderson College on Saturday, December 4, at 2:00 PM.

Coker jumped out early on the Yellow Jackets to grab a 17-5 advantage with 10:44 to play.  Allen didn’t get its first field goal of the game until the 9:47 mark when Katara Myers hit a jumper to make it 17-7.  Coker limited Allen to only 18 first-half points and led by 23 at the break.

The Cobras maintained their large cushion throughout the second period, allowing the Yellow Jackets to get no closer than 21 points.  CC controlled the boards for a 50-34 advantage and forced Allen into 20 turnovers in the contest. 

Junior Rachael Kolbeck/Santa Paula, CA led all scorers with 25 points and added five rebounds and three steals.  Freshman Sara Nelson/Mondovi, WI had another solid game with 13 points and seven boards, while senior Shamae Hemingway/Conway, SC continued to work her way back from injury with eight points, eight boards, three assists, three blocks and two steals.  Junior Justina Dakins/Barron, WI chipped in five points, seven boards and a team-high five assists.

For Allen, Myers finished with 17 points and eight rebounds and Shauna Barefield tallied nine points, all from the foul line.

An injury to sophomore guard Tara Nelson/Rochester Hills, MI marred the result for Coker, however.  Nelson finished with five points in 11 minutes but left the game with a knee injury following a fall on a fast break.  More on the extent of the injury will be known tomorrow.
