HARTSVILLE, SCShamae Hemingway/Conway, SC tied the Coker All-Time record for points in a career Saturday afternoon in a 63-60 victory over Limestone College in women’s collegiate basketball.  Hemingway’s 21 points tied her with Karen Pinckney-Floyd with 1,372 points and three regular-season games left on the schedule.

 

Coker (7-17, 4-13) opened an 18-10 lead over the first 10 minutes of play but the Saints rattled off 11 consecutive points in a three-minute span to grab a 21-18 advantage.  LC (4-20, 4-14) stayed out front the rest of the period and led 30-25 at the break.

 

The Cobras used an 11-2 spurt at the start of the second half to take a 36-34 lead and never trailed again.  LC tied it at 36-36 but Coker scored seven consecutive to pull ahead for good.  The Saints made a run in the final minutes but CC made enough free-throws to hold the visitors off.

 

Limestone made only 18 field goals on the day but stayed with the Cobras by hitting 22-25 free throws.  Coker turned the ball over a season-low 11 times while forcing 18 from the Saints.

 

Hemingway led all scorers with 21 points and also had seven rebounds and three steals.  Sophomore India Elliott/Faison, NC added 17 points and Tyesha Ervin/Darlington, SC contributed nine points and three assists.  Sara Nelson/Mondovi, WI cleaned up the boards with nine rebounds, including four on the offensive end.

 

Monica Adams totaled 12 points inside for Limestone and Melissa DeVore finished with 10 points, eight rebounds, three assists and three steals.

 

Hemingway tries to make history when Coker takes to the road on Monday, February 21, against Pfeiffer University in Misenheimer, NC at 5:30 PM.
