HARTSVILLE, SC — Coker stretched a two-point halftime lead to double digits and held off Queens University of Charlotte Thursday night for a 70-57 women’s basketball win.  The Cobras improve to 6-17 overall and 3-13 in the CVAC, while Queens drops to 7-17, 6-11 in conference.    

Coker came out of a back-and-forth first half with a 31-29 lead by taking care of the ball and shooting a solid 43 percent.  The Cobras had only seven first period turnovers and grabbed nine offensive rebounds to get six second-chance points.

The Cobras came out of the break and went on a 15-4 run to grab a 46-33 with 13:20 on the clock.  Coker maintained their lead the rest of the way despite some defensive mistakes when the Royals where unable to finish from the foul line.  Queens connected on 5-24 attempts from the line, including a 2-14 performance in the second period.

Michelle Glover had 16 points and nine rebounds for Coker and Shamae Hemingway added 15 points and eight boards.  Point Guard Tyesha Ervin finished with nine points and a game-high 10 boards, while sophomore India Elliott totaled 14 points, four rebounds and five assists.

Coker shot 46 percent for the game and dominated the glass for a 51-31 advantage.  CC had only one more rebound than the visitors at halftime but the Cobras out-rebounded Queens 31-12 after the break.

Maggie Austin had the inside game working for QUC with 21 points on 8-12 shooting but no other Royal player reached double-digits.  Erinn Hayes had nine rebounds for Queens and Kasey Gillis dished out seven assists.

Coker hosts Limestone on Saturday, February 19, at 2:00 PM.  CC will honor its three seniors, Hemingway, Glover, and Rnesha Baldwin, prior to the game.
