HARTSVILLE, SC – Coker never led in a 64-38 defeat to Erskine Monday night in women’s collegiate basketball.  The Cobras fall to 5-14 overall and 2-10 in the CVAC, while EC improves to 11-8 and 6-6 in conference.

A slow start only got worse for Coker as the team scored only two points over the last seven minutes of the first half.  With the CC offense stuck in neutral the Flying Fleet took off and built a 32-11 advantage at the break.

The Cobras cut the lead to 16 points over the first three minutes of the second period but Erskine called timeout and on the next possession Anita Owens drilled a three and the visitors never looked back.

Senior Shamae Hemingway/Conway, SC scored 12 points and pulled down seven rebounds on a slow night for the Cobras.  Owens led the Fleet with 17 points and Melissa Woods added 13 points, eight rebounds and three assists.

Coker managed only 15 percent shooting in the first half and 29 percent from the field for the game.  EC shot 42 percent for the game and 48 percent from beyond the arc.

The Cobras will try to regroup in time for a trip to Mt. Olive on Thursday, January 10, at 5:30.
