Tony McElveen Jr. Sets Coker Record at JDL College Kick-Off Classic

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Coker University men's track and field team kicked off their 2019-20 campaign on Saturday (Dec. 7) at the JDL College Kick-Off Classic in Winston-Salem, N.C.

On the track, Tony McElveen Jr. led the way for the Cobras, setting a Coker record in the 60m with a time of 6.87, breaking his previous record of 6.90 which he set last season. His time of 6.87 provisionally qualifies for nationals. In the 400m, Trevon Campbell set the tone for the Cobras with a time of 53.17. Seraphin Kibonge and Allen Hill weren't too far behind, posting times of 53.31 and 53.65, respectively.

For the 200m, Antuan Crowder's time of 23.28 was the best on the day for the Cobras. Davion Sebree posted a mark of 23.43, while Chirlo Phillips finished at 23.59. In the 800m, senior Will Mosley had a mark of 2:05.56. Meanwhile, Alex Berry recorded a distance of 6.50m in the long jump.

"We saw lots of personal bests today, including a new school record and national qualifying time for Tony, making him the first ever indoor male to hit provisional," said coach Pete Early. "We are looking forward to building off of today going forward."
