McElveen Jr. Claims Coker Record, More Cobras Advance to Friday's Events

CHARLOTTE, N.C.- The Coker College men's track and field team competed in day one of the South Atlantic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championship, hosted by Johnson C. Smith, on Thursday, April 19. 

Kace Faulkner competed in two events on the day. In the hammer throw, he threw for 111' 4", good for 20th in the event and for fifth in the Coker record book. Faulkner finished 10th in the javelin throw, hurling it 128' 7", placing him second at Coker.

Jacob Chebii placed ninth in the 10,000-meter run, and second in the Cobra records, finished in 34:02.61.

Derrian Moreau and Richelieu Valery qualified for the 100-meter hurdles on Friday, with finishes of fifth and eighth, respectively. Moreau ran it in 15.29 (fourth in the record book) and Valery in 15.58 (tying him for fifth all-time).

Tony McElveen Jr. claimed yet another Coker record in his 100-meter dash preliminary heat. His time of 10.65 placed him in fifth heading into the finals.  

In the 400-meter dash preliminaries, Jarrell Mumford tied ninth place at Coker with his time of 50.53.

Brandon Mullins won his 800-meter heat in the preliminaries with a time of 1:56.86, placing third overall in the event. His time is good for sixth at Coker and qualifies him for Friday's finals.

The 200-meter dash preliminaries saw Mumford qualify for the finals in the eighth spot with a time of 21.98, fifth all-time at Coker. McElveen Jr. also ran for a time of 22.03, sixth-best at Coker.
