Men's Track and Field Has Sights Set on Camel City Invitational

HARTSVILLE, S.C.- The Coker College men's track and field team will travel to Winston-Salem, N.C. on Friday and Saturday (Feb. 2-3) to take on the Camel City Invitational. Coming off esteemed success at the JDL College Dual Meet Madness, Tony McElveen Jr. and Jacob Chebii look forward to another challenge presented in front of them. 

Tony McElveen Jr. continued to break records for the Cobras as he added two more on Sunday (Jan. 28). The junior from Florence, S.C., sped through the 60-meter dash in 6.92 seconds to give him a second place finish, and the top spot in the record book. Additionally, he ran the 200-meter race, where he placed second overall in 22.51 seconds, landing another top Coker mark.

Jacob Chebii relentlessly pushed forward to secure a new school record in the 3000-meter race, finishing in 9:21.60. The junior holds five of the top seven times in program history.

Brandon Mullins tied his own previous record in the 800-meter race, which was set in the Cobras' last event at the Wake Forest Open, running a time of 1.56.38.

Moving into the 400-meter, Jarrell Mumford and Murish Irankunda placed sixth and seventh in times of 52.50 and 53.04 respectively.

Luke Elliott brought home a time of 4:46.82 in the mile, placing him fourth all-time in Coker history.

Will Mosley, Mumford, Mahari Greene, and Irankunda placed third-overall in the 4x400 event, crossing the line in 3:30.51, good for fifth all-time.

The Navy and Gold will head to Winston-Salem, N.C. Feb. 2-3 for the Camel City Invitational. Both day's events are scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. Live results can be found by visiting www.cokercobras.com.
