Men's Track and Field Returns to Coker with New Records

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.- The Coker College men's track and field team traveled to Winston-Salem, N.C. on Sunday (Jan. 28) to take on the JDL College Dual Meet Madness and will return to Coker with Tony McElveen Jr. and Jacob Chebii holding new program records in the 60-meter dash, 200-meter dash, and the 3000-meter race. 

Tony McElveen Jr. continues to break records for the Cobras as he added two more on Sunday. The junior from Florence, S.C., sped through the 60-meter dash in 6.92 seconds to give him a second place finish, and the top spot in the record book. Additionally, he ran the 200-meter race, where he placed second overall in 22.51 seconds, landing another top Coker mark.

Jacob Chebii relentlessly pushed forward to secure a new school record in the 3000-meter race, finishing in 9:21.60. The junior holds five of the top seven times in program history.

Brandon Mullins tied his own previous record in the 800-meter race, which was set in the Cobras' last event at the Wake Forest Open, running a time of 1.56.38.

Moving into the 400-meter, Jarrell Mumford and Murish Irankuna placed sixth and seventh in times of 52.50 and 53.04 respectively.

Luke Elliott brought home a time of 4:46.82 in the mile, placing him fourth all-time in Coker history.

Will Mosley, Mumford, Mahari Greene, and Irankunda placed third-overall in the 4x400 event, crossing the line in 3:30.51, good for fifth all-time.

The Navy and Gold will head back to Winston-Salem, N.C. Feb. 2-3 for the Camel City Invitational. Both day's events are scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. Live results can be found by visiting www.cokercobras.com.
