Coker Men's Track and Field Turn in Results at the JDL New Year College Kick-Off

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.- The Coker College men's track and field team competed well at the JDL New Year College Kick-Off on Sunday (Jan. 7). Tony McElveen Jr. broke the school record in the men's 60-meter, in the time of 6.95 seconds. 

In the men's 3000-meter race, Jacob Chebii and Luke Elliott placed fourth and fifth, finishing in the times of 9:35.85 and 9:39.29 respectively. Chebii's time puts him fifth overall in the Coker record books.

In the 60-meter hurdles, Derrian Moreau brought in a fourth place finish in the time of 8.56 seconds, good for third all-time in Coker history. Zakary McGriff and Kamiam McClain also raced, finishing sixth and seventh in times of 8.77 and 8.78.

Tony McElveen Jr. tied his own previous, and school record in the 60-meter preliminary race with a time of 6.96, but broke it in the finals, setting the new record at 6.95.

McElveen Jr. also competed in the 200-meter event placing second, running a 22.90 to finish runner-up, and good for third all-time in program history. McClain and William Mosley ran alongside McElveen Jr., finishing in sixth and seventh in times of 23.82 and 23.98.

Moving into the 400-meter race, Sage Lilly brought in a second place finish with a time of 52.31 tied for second all-time in Coker history, while Mosely finished fourth in 53.17.

Brandon Campbell put his efforts into the shot put for the Navy and Gold, tossing a length of 36'7" placing seventh, for a third-best throw distance in program history.

Coker men's track and field will next compete at the Wake Forest Open on Saturday Jan. 20 in Winston-Salem, N.C. beginning at 9:30 a.m.
