Cobras Post Strong Showing at UNCP Braves Classic

PEMBROKE, N.C. – The Coker College men's track and field team opened up its 2017 outdoor season on Friday (Mar. 3) at the UNC Pembroke Braves Classic. In all, the Cobras picked up 16 top-10 finishes, including a win at the 4 x 400-meter relay, two runner-up showings and three third-place finishes.

In the 4 x 400, the team of Will Mosley, Tyriek Sampson, Razzel Kiplaget and Brandon Mullins ran a time of 3:25.57 to bring home the top prize by over three seconds.

In the long jump, Zafir Abdus-Salaam's leap of 6.63 meters left in him second place for the event. He also placed in the triple jump, finishing third with a distance of 14.21 meters, good enough for a new Coker outdoor track and field record.

In the high jump, Marcus Bryant finished second with a leap of 1.88 meters, while taking fourth in the triple jump with a distance of 14.08 meters.

In the 100-meter dash, Tony McElveen Jr.'s time of 11.11 landed him a third-place showing, while Razzel Kiplaget ran a time of 2:00.92 in the 800-meter dash, also finishing in third place.

The Cobras will be back in action on Friday (Mar. 10) at the UNCW Seahawk Invitational.
