Cobras Sweep UVA Wise at Home With Two Walk Offs

The Coker University Softball team welcomed Virginia-Wise to town for a South Atlantic Conference doubleheader.

Game 1

The Coker University softball team had a dominant performance in their game against Virginia-Wise on April 6, 2024, coming out on top with a final score of 8-0.

The Cobras got on the board early, scoring a run in the first inning thanks to a single from Cameron Jackson that brought Ariana Fair home. Coker then exploded for five runs in the third inning, with key hits coming from Jackson, Caitlyn Wray, Kelsie Gollie, and Haley McCoy. The Cobras added two more runs in the fifth inning to secure the victory.

Pitcher Madie Andrews was stellar on the mound for Coker, pitching a complete game and allowing only one hit while striking out two batters. The defense also played a crucial role in the shutout, with strong performances from the entire team.

Offensively, Coker was led by Cameron Jackson, who had two RBIs, and Abbie McCants, who contributed with a key hit that drove in a run. Ariana Fair also had a strong game, scoring two runs and stealing two bases.

Game 2

In a thrilling extra-inning matchup, the Coker University softball team emerged victorious over Virginia-Wise with a final score of 6-5. The game, played on April 6, 2024, at Saleeby Stokes Field in Hartsville, SC, showcased a hard-fought battle between the two teams.

Virginia-Wise started strong, scoring a run in the first inning, but Coker responded with a solo home run by Caitlyn Wray in the second inning to tie the game. The score remained tied until the eighth inning when Virginia-Wise took a 3-1 lead with a triple by Bayleigh Allison and a wild pitch.

Coker fought back in the bottom of the eighth, with Caitlyn Wray hitting another home run to tie the game at 3-3. Virginia-Wise regained the lead in the ninth inning with a two-run double by Savannah Johnson, but Coker answered once again with a two-run homer by Mya Cribbs to tie the game at 5-5.

The game-winning run came in the tenth inning when H. McCoy singled to drive in K. Gollie, giving Coker the 6-5 victory. Pitcher Abbie McCants earned the win for Coker, pitching 2.2 innings in relief.

The Cobras will return to action on Tuesday, April 9th as they will travel to Newberry to begin a three series road trip. Game one is scheduled to begin at 2:00PM
