Softball Splits Day Two of Round Robin Tournament

HARTSVILLE, S.C. - The Coker University softball team split their final two games of the Coker Round Robin Tournament on Saturday (Feb. 19). The Cobras dropped a heartbreaker to Flagler College 6-5, before defeating Converse 10-1 in five innings.

In game one, the two teams went back and forth as they went into the fifth inning deadlocked at 4-4. The Cobras utilized a Chloe Pelham RBI double, an Ava Jay RBI triple, and a Flagler two-run error to record their four runs. Bailey Douglas's RBI single gave Coker a 5-4 lead after five innings, but the Saints would add one run in the eighth and another in the ninth to take the 6-5 decision.

In game two, the Cobras came out swinging as they scored on a Makayla Cuthbertson RBI single and pushed across two more on a Kayla Oswell RBI double in the first inning. Coker continued their work at the plate in the second inning. Makenzie Harmon ripped a two RBI triple down the left field line, then scored on Chloe Pelham's RBI single. Bailey Douglas followed suit with her own two RBI triple, scoring Pelham and Oswell to increase the margin to 8-0.

Coker would add two more runs in the fourth inning for good measure, as Pelham recorded another RBI on a double to center field and scored on Douglas's RBI single. Callie Thornton and Jordyn Goodman combined to allow just one run and four hits in the circle for the Cobras in the victory.

The Cobras will be back on the softball diamond this Tuesday (Feb. 22), when they host Lincoln (Pa.) for a doubleheader. First pitch for game one is scheduled for noon, with live video and statistics available at www.cokercobras.com
