Softball Sweeps Day One of Round Robin Tournament

 

HARTSVILLE, S.C.- The Coker University took down both Flagler and Converse today (Feb.18) by scores of 10-4 and 9-2 on day one of the Coker Round Robin Tournament. 

 

Game One vs. Flagler College

The Saints would strike in the top on the first when they would score from a single to right field to put them up 1-0. 

Coker would quickly tie things up in the bottom half of the first from Chloe Pelham's RBI single to score Ariana Fair

The game would remain tied at 1-1 until the fourth when Bailey Douglas would send a home run over the right center wall to put the Cobras up 2-1.

In the sixth Coker would add to their lead when Pelham's two-RBI single through the left side would sore Ariana Davis and Hannah Davis, putting the Cobras up 4-1. 

Flagler would tie the game up in the sixth from two hits and thee Coker errors. 

The Cobras would take control of the game in the bottom of the sixth, first from Fair's RBI single through the right side scoring Bailey Douglas for the go-ahead run over the Saints. Brooklyn Stueness would bring the score to 6-4 when she would score on a Flagler wild pitch. 

Mykayka Cuthbertson would plate Ava Jay from her RBI single through the right side. 

Coker's offense explosion would keep coming in the sixth when Pelham would double to left scoring Fair. Kayla Oswell's sacrifice fly to center would score pinch runner Brandi Davis to put the Cobras up 9-4. 

The final run of the game would be from a Flager error that would score Pelham to bring the final game score to 10-4. 

 

Game Two vs. Converse

The Cobras would strike early in the first from Mykayla Cuthbertson's triple to right field to score Ariana Fair, putting Coker up 1-0 with no outs. Bailey Douglas would score Cuthbertson when she would hit a single down the right field line, adding to the Coker lead. Chloe Pelham would score from a Converse fielding error to put Coker up 3-0. Douglas would score when she would steal home to put Coker up 4-0 in the first. 

Converse would get one back when they would score on a Coker fielding error, 4-1.

The Cobras would answer in the third when Bailey Douglas would launch her second home run of the day over the right field wall, scoring Pelham and Oswell to bring Coker's lead to 7-1.

In the bottom of the fourth, Cuthbertson would hit an inside the park home run to extend Coker's lead. 

Converse would scratch into the Coker lead in the sixth from a sacrifice fly. 

Coker would hammer home the win in the bottom of the sixth when Cierra Watts would triple down the left field line to score Douglas and bring the final game score to 9-2. 

 

On the day the Cobras hit three home runs with two of those being from Bailey Douglas. Douglas went 5 for 7 with five RBI's and five runs along with three stolen bases on the day. 

 

In the circle, Callie Thornton pitched 6.0 innings in game one where she stuck out five, allowing five hits and only walking one batter to go along with only one earned run in her performance.

In game two, Brandi Davis picked up the win in her complete game performance where she only allowed two hits over 7.0 innings of work and only allowing one run and one walk. 

 

The Cobras are back in action tomorrow (Feb. 19) when they compete on day two of the Coker Round Robin. First pitch is set for 2 p.m. against Flagler. Liver coverage can be found at www.cokercobras.com
