Coker Softball Splits Doubleheader at Mount Olive

Mount Olive, N.C.- The Coker University softball team split its non-conference doubleheader at Mount Olive on Tuesday (Apr. 13). The Cobras won game one 6-2, before falling in game two 6-2.

Game One

Chloe Pelham started things off with a single to left field to score Kelsi Scott. Mount Olive tied the game at 1-1 on an error at the bottom of the first. Coker extended its lead with a two-out single to left field from Mikayla Cuthbertson that scored Ava Jay in the second. In the fourth inning, Madison King scored on a sacrifice fly to center from Scott. The Cobras would score one inning later on another sacrifice fly from Mikayla Goodwin that scored Pelham for the 4-1 lead. The Trojans scored another run at the bottom of the fifth to get back within 4-2. Kayla Oswell increased Coker's lead with a two-run jack to left field in the top of the seventh scoring Cuthbertson and bringing the game to its final score.

Five different Cobras notched two hits apiece in the game. Oswell led with two RBI while Isabelle Mullen (3-1) and Brandi Davis registered one strikeout each.

Game Two

Mount Olive took the 1-0 lead in the second inning and continued to extend its lead through the next few innings. Oswell knocked a single through the left side to score Cuthbertson in the top of the sixth, before King hit a single through the right side to score Bailey Douglas in the seventh inning to bring the game to its final score

Six different Cobras notched one hit apiece. Hannah Fisher (6-6) finished the game with two strikeouts.

The Cobras will travel to Catawba on Friday (Apr. 16) for a South Atlantic Conference doubleheader. First pitch of the doubleheader is set for 3:00 p.m., with video and live stats available at www.cokercobras.com
