Coker Softball Falls to Anderson

HARTSVILLE, S.C. - The Coker University softball team fell to Anderson in its South Atlantic Conference Doubleheader on Saturday (Apr. 10), dropping game one 10-0 and nearly coming back in game two by a score of 7-6. 

Game 1

Coker fell to Anderson 10-0 in five innings. Mikayla Goodwin notched a team-best two hits, while Isabelle Mullen registered three strikeouts. 

Game 2

Anderson started out with three runs in the top of the first, before Kelsi Scott reached first on a fielding error before stealing second and later scoring on a throwing error. Mikayla Cuthbertson reached first on a throwing error, and later scored on Chloe Pelham's RBI double to center field. In the bottom of the second, Ava Jay singled to shortstop and later came around to score on a throwing error to make it 5-3. Kayla Oswell tacked on one more in the sixth with a solo shot to make it a three-run game (7-4). Trying to make the comeback in the bottom of the seventh, Pelham slammed a two-RBI double down the left field line to score Cuthbertson and Scott to get the Cobras back within one and put the game at its final score. 

Scott and Cuthbertson scored two runs scored apiece, while Oswell and Jay both finished with one. Pelham registered a team-best three RBI and two hits. Jay also tallied two while four other Cobras notched one. Jordyn Goodman (6-3) finished with two strikeouts on the day. 

The Cobras hit the road on Tuesday (Apr. 13) for a non-conference doubleheader at Mount Olive. First pitch of the doubleheader is set for 3:00 p.m., with video and live stats available at www.cokercobras.com.
