Cobras Sweep Doubleheader At Augusta University

Augusta, Georgia – The Coker University softball team swept Monday's (Feb. 10) doubleheader on the road against the Augusta University Jaguars 2-0, and 4-3.

Game One

The story of game one was a great pitchers duel between Isabelle Mullen and Augusta's Kelsey Parks. Mullen held the Jaguars scoreless through 5.2 innings, striking out seven while only allowing two hits.

Parks struck out 10 Cobras through eight innings, but in the top of the eighth the Cobras were able to find their groove against Parks. With Anna Gluhosky on second base, Madison King hit a clutch RBI triple for the first run of the game. In the following at bat, Hannah Goodman brought King home on a sacrifice fly to give the Cobras a 2-0 lead.  Hannah Fisher relived Mullen, getting the final outs to seal the game one win for Coker, earning the win on 2.1 scoreless innings pitched in relief.

Game Two

In game two, the Cobras carried over that momentum as they took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first, courtesy of an Ava Jay RBI single to score Ashley Meckley. After the Jaguars tied the game up in the bottom of the fourth, the score remained 1-1 heading into the top of the seventh. Bailey Douglas got things started in the inning with a single, followed by an RBI double from Madison King to give the Cobras a 2-1 lead. Next up was Lauren DeWitt, who got an RBI hit of her own to score King. Later in the same inning, Jay picked up her second RBI of the game to push the Coker advantage to 4-1.

The Jaguars came rallying back in the bottom half of the inning, cutting the deficit to 4-3 after a two-run homer. Christine Carver was able to regroup and get the final outs to propel the Cobras to a 4-3 victory. Jordyn Goodman earned the win, pitching 5 great innings while only allowing one run.

The Cobras return to action on Friday (Feb. 14) when they travel to Columbus, Georgia for the Cougar Classic. First pitch against Georgia Southwestern is scheduled for 7:00 p.m., with live coverage available at www.cokercobras.com.
