Williamson and Carver Earn First Team All-Conference Honors

ROCK HILL, S.C.- Coker softball's Maria Williamson and Christine Carver were selected onto the All-South Atlantic Conference First-Team, as announced by the conference on Wednesday, April 25.

As the first baseman on the Coker softball team, Maria Williamson has played in 48 games for the Cobras. As of April 23, she is a batting a highly efficient .452 with an on base percentage of .523, and a slugging percentage of .699. Williamson has 10 home runs, 49 RBI, 66 hits, six doubles, reached 102 total bases, scored 29 runs, been walked 25 times, and has hit three sacrifice flies. She is responsible for 320 putouts, 10 assists, and aided on eight double plays with a .991 fielding percentage. Williamson was named to the conference preseason first-team at first and was named a South Atlantic Conference AstroTurf Player of the Week once. In the Coker records, she is sixth all-time in career hits with 174, tied fourth in home runs with 33, and tied for third in season walks with 25 thus far in 2018. Williamson's batting average of .452 earned her the SAC statistical champion as well.

The Laurens, S.C. native is the daughter of Jenny and L.E. Williamson and is an elementary education major.

Christine Carver, a right-handed pitcher for the softball team, has appeared in 27 games, with 20 starts, and has a total of 139 innings pitched with 13 complete games and four shutouts. With a 16-6 record with one save, Carver has struck out 108 batters, for a 5.44 strikeout per game ratio, on her way to a 1.86 ERA. She has allowed just 98 hits, 37 earned runs, and 34 walks, with a batting average against of .196. She is responsible for three putouts and 16 assists for a .950 fielding percentage. At Claflin in February, Carver highlighted her softball season and career by pitching a perfect game with 11 strikeouts. She is a three-time South Atlantic Conference AstroTurf Pitcher of the Week this season as well as the SPC Credit Union Student-Athlete of the Month for February. Carver was recognized as the Louisville Slugger/NFCA National Pitcher of the Week on March 7.

The Waxhaw, N.C. native is the daughter of Lisa and Mike Carver and is majoring in business administration.

As a team, the Navy and Gold highlighted their season with a defeat of the No. 2 North Georgia Nighthawks in March and are currently ranked No. 7 in the Southeast Region across Division II. The pitching staff are the conference statistical champions for their strikeout-to-walk ratio of 2.15.

The regular season runner-up and tournament No. 2 seed will face the No. 7 Catawba Lady Indians on Friday, April 27 at 3:00 p.m. in the opening round of the SAC Tournament hosted by Anderson University (S.C.).
