Coker Welcomes Alderson Broaddus and Mount Olive for Cobra Invitational

HARTSVILLE, S.C.- The Coker softball team will host the Cobra Invitational on Saturday and Sunday (Feb. 17-18) featuring Mount Olive and Alderson Broaddus. The two-day event will have games starting at 10 a.m., 12 p.m., and 2:15 p.m. each day.

The Cobras go into the weekend undefeated in their six games, scoring 61 runs on 54 hits thus far. There have been 11 doubles, a triple, and two home runs in this stretch. While stealing 11 bases, the team has batted in 54 runners and walked 18 times. Coker is batting a fiery .346 and shutting down opponents with a 1.27 ERA, giving up only six earned runs with 28 strikeouts. The Navy and Gold fielding has been efficient at .978 percent. Maria Williamson has been leading the Cobras offensively with seven runs, 13 hits, two doubles, two home runs, and 12 RBI, all while batting .591. Cacey Simmons has eight hits, scored seven runs, two doubles, one triple, 10 RBI, two stolen bases, and batting an excellent .471. Christine Carver is the winningest pitcher so far this season, picking up three victories in 16 innings pitched. She has two complete games consisting of 16 strikeouts with a 1.75 ERA. Carver has only given up 14 hits, five walks, and four earned runs in the three games.

Alderson Broaddus will be opening up their season in Hartsville against the home team. In 2017, the Battlers finished 13-29 and 6-22 in conference play. They had six batters with averages over .300 and the pitchers combined for a 6.22 ERA.

Mount Olive has started their season with a 1-3 record, scoring 31 runs with a .314 batting average. The Trojan pitchers have a 4.97 ERA heading into the weekend tournament.

On Saturday, the Navy and Gold will face Alderson Broaddus in the 10 a.m. slot and Mount Olive at 2:15 p.m. Sunday, the Cobras play Alderson Broaddus at noon and Mount Olive at 2:15 p.m. again.

Game one is set for a 10:00 a.m. start, with the gates of Saleeby-Stokes Softball Field opening at 9:00 a.m. Game two will begin at approximately 12:00 p.m., with game three following around 2:15 p.m.
