Cobras Battle Warriors in Season Opener

HARTSVILLE, S.C.- The Coker College softball team will begin their 2018 season against non-conference opponent, Southern Wesleyan University, on Saturday (Feb. 3) afternoon.

The Cobras head into the season with three members being selected to the South Atlantic Conference preseason first team (Maria Williamson, Mindy North, and Taylor Forehand), and one joining the second team (Cacey Simmons). They are also returning all six All-Conference honorees from 2017 (North, Williamson, Simmons, Kelsi Bachmann, Hannah Price, and Forehand). The Navy and Gold were tabbed to finish third in the conference in preseason standings, while also garnering a first-place vote. Coker is coming off of their winningest season since 2002, collecting 41 victories.

The Warriors will be competing in their second series in 2018 when they journey to Coker, taking on the Trojans of Anderson University (S.C.) Friday (Feb. 2) evening. They were picked to finish ninth in the Conference Carolinas preseason poll for the second consecutive season.

Game one is set for a 1:00 p.m. start, with the gates of Saleeby-Stokes Softball Field opening at 12:00 p.m. Game two will begin at approximately 3:00 p.m.
