Cobras and Bulldogs Meet for Tuesday SAC Doubleheader

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker College softball team (31-11, 7-3 SAC) will welcome the visiting Wingate University Bulldogs on Tuesday (Apr. 4) for a South Atlantic Conference doubleheader. Game times are set for 2 and 4 p.m. at Saleeby-Stokes Softball Field, with live stats and broadcast available at www.cokercobras.com.

The Cobras look to remain sizzling at Saleeby-Stokes, sporting a 15-3 record in front of the Coker faithful, including winning eight of their last 10.

The tandem of Maria Williamson and Tayler Barcomb lead the offensive attack for the Navy and Gold. Williamson leads NCAA Division II with 101 total bases on the season and ranks second with 12 long balls. Within the SAC, she is the league-leader with 12 home runs and is tied with Barcomb atop the conference with 44 RBI. Barcomb enters Tuesday leading the SAC with 17 doubles on the season.

In the circle, Coker has three pitchers ranking in the top-11 in the SAC in ERA, with Christine Carver leading the way with a 1.96 ERA. Taylor Forehand comes in with an 8-1 mark and a 2.08 ERA, while Nikki Linthicum and Carver lead the SAC with three saves on the season.

Wingate travels to Hartsville with a 21-15 overall record and an 8-2 mark in league play. The Bulldogs present a balanced offensive attack, with nine players plating more than 12 RBI this season. Naomi Sapp leads the way, batting .430 and slashing 52 hits so far this season, both figures ranking in the top-10 in the SAC.

Game one will begin at 2 p.m., with gates opening at 1 p.m. Tickets for the game are $5 for adults, $3 for students and free to all Coker faculty, staff and students.
