Cobras Split SAC Road Doubleheader Against Pioneers

GREENEVILLE, TENN. – The Coker College softball team went 1-1 on Saturday (Apr. 1) in a South Atlantic Conference road doubleheader against the Tusculum College Pioneers. The Pioneers won a low-scoring opener by a score of 2-0, with the Cobras winning game two by a score of 6-1.

In game one, the Cobras could only manage three hits, as Tusculum plated runs in the second and fourth innings to secure the 2-0.

Kelsi Bachmann, Cacey Simmons and Maria Williamson all recorded a hit in the loss.

Christine Carver was hit with the loss. She allowed two runs on five hits in four innings. In relief, Nikki Linthicum allowed one hit in two innings.

In game two, the Cobras struck first in the third inning, as RBI singles by Maria Williamson and Tayler Barcomb scored Breana Ard and Bachmann. Bachmann singled up the middle in the fourth inning to score Lilli Otten to give Coker a 3-0 lead. Simmons scored Ard on a sac bunt to lift Coker ahead 4-0. A RBI base hit by Barcomb scored Bachmann to cap off the fourth inning and put Coker ahead 5-0. Tusculum responded with a run in the fourth to make it 5-1. Another base hit by Barcomb in the sixth scored Simmons to give Coker a 6-1 lead. Tusculum went down one, two, three in the sixth and seventh innings, giving the Navy and Gold a 6-1 win in game two.

Barcomb led the way, going 3-for-4 with three RBI. Bachmann, Williamson, Ard and Mindy North all finished with multi-hit games.

Taylor Forehand picked up her eighth win of the season, allowing just one run on four hits in four innings. Linthicum appeared once again in relief, this time allowing just one hit in three innings, earning her third save of the season.

The Cobras will be back in action on Wednesday (Apr. 5) to host Wingate in a SAC doubleheader.
