Cobras Fall to Warhawks in Extra Innings

COLUMBUS, GA. – The Coker College softball team fell to the Auburn-Montgomery Warhawks on day one of the Columbus St. Classic by a score of 6-3 in eight innings. 

Two runs in the top of the first inning lifted AUM to an early 2-0 lead. In the bottom of the second inning, Hannah Price belted her fourth home run of the season to cut the deficit to 2-1. Two batters later, with a runner on first, Allyson High doubled to left center, scoring Riley Morris and tying the game up at 2-2. Cacey Simmons led off the bottom of the third inning with a triple, before scoring via a Maria Williamson sacrifice fly to give Coker a 3-2 lead. The Warhawks tied it up at 3-3 in the top of the fifth, thanks to a base hit to center field. Coker could not capitalize with runners in scoring position in both the sixth and seventh innings, forcing the game to extra innings. In the top of the eighth, Auburn-Montgomery plated three runs to take a 6-3 going into the bottom half of the frame. The Navy and Gold went down quietly in the bottom of the eighth, dropping its opening game of the CSU Classic by a score of 6-3.

Price led the way, going a perfect 3-for-3 at the dish. Tayler Barcomb went 2-for-4, while Simmons, High and Augusta Jackson all recorded hits. 

Tabitha Allen (4-1) was hit with the loss. She allowed two earned runs in three innings.   

The Cobras will be back in action tomorrow (Mar. 4) at 5 and 7 p.m. to face Barry and Columbus St.
