Coker Drops Two at Captain D’s Surf and Turf Classic

DAHLONEGA, GA. – The Coker College softball team fell 9-0 and 9-8 in its first two games of the Captain D's Surf and Turf Classic. In game one, the Cobras fell to the No. 13 University of North Georgia 9-0. In game two, Coker lost 9-8 to University of Virginia-Wise.

Tabitha Allen was hit with the loss in game one. She gave up seven runs on eight hits in three innings.

In game two, Maria Williamson got things started with a solo homerun in the top of the first inning to put Coker ahead 1-0. The Cavaliers responded with a run of their own in the bottom half of the inning to tie the game up at 1-1. After scoreless second and third innings, UVA-Wise plated two in the bottom half of the fourth inning. The two teams traded runs in the fifth, the Cobras exploded for six runs in the top of the sixth inning to take a 8-4 lead. However, the Cavs fought their way back, plating five in the bottom of the sixth to take a 9-8 lead and the eventual one-run win.

Courtney Boan went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs scored and one RBI. Williamson went 2-for-4 with a homerun, a double, two RBIs and one run scored. Allyson High also had a multi-hit afternoon, going 2-for-4. Riley Morris and Tayler Barcomb each went 1-for-3, Morris plating two RBIs, while Barcomb had one RBI. Hannah Price went 1-for-1 with an RBI to round things out for the Cobras.

Taylor Forehand was hit with the loss. She gave up one earned run on five hits in two innings.

The Cobras will wrap up play at the Surf and Turf Classic tomorrow (Mar. 6) with matchups against UVA-Wise and North Georgia at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.
