Barcomb Belts Two Home Runs in Coker’s Sweep of Converse

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker College softball team (4-0) recorded a pair of 11-3 victories over the visiting Converse College Valkyries on Sunday afternoon (Feb. 7) in a non-conference doubleheader.

In game one, four Cobras recorded double-digit RBIs, led by the three RBIs of Corrine Stiles. Stiles also went 3-for-4 with a run scored. Tayler Barcomb went 2-for-3 with a home run, two RBIs and a run scored. Ashley Gallman also finished with two hits, two runs scored and two RBIs, while Carylann Geddes recorded two RBIs as well, going 1-for-3. Maria Williamson also finished game one with two hit and one RBI.

Tabitha Allen (2-0) picked up the win, scattering six hits and two earned runs over five innings, while striking out five batters.

The Cobras continued their offensive dominance in the second game, plating 11 runs on 10 hits. Barcomb's power surge continued, as she belted a two-run home run in the first inning, on her way to a 2-for-3 game. Not to be outdone, Gallman went a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored, while Geddes went 1-for-3 with three RBIs. Allyson High also had two hits in the latter game, to go along with a run and one RBI.

Taylor Forehand (2-0) earned the win, throwing a complete game three-hitter, giving up three runs while striking out two.

The Cobras will be back in action on Wednesday (Feb. 10) to take on the visiting UNC Pembroke Braves in a non-conference doubleheader. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
