Cobras Make it Five Straight Wins with Sweep of Golden Bulls

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Coker College softball team (12-9)extended their winning streak to five on Tuesday (Mar. 10) with a two-game sweep over the Golden Bulls of Johnson C. Smith University. Coker took game one with a 6-0 shutoutthen turned around to take game two 12-3. 

In game one, the Cobras used explosive fifth, sixth and seventh innings to cruise to a 6-0 victory. Ashley Gallman led the way plating two RBIs and going 2-for-4. Jill Lewis and Corrine Stiles each went a perfect 3-for-3 at the dish. Stiles scored two runs, while Lewis scored one and picked up an RBI. Riley Morris and Ashlee Ellen had an RBI each as well. 

In game two, the bats stepped up in the late innings again as Coker scored nine runs in the final two innings to take the 12-3 victory. Katelyn Szupello went 4-for-5 at the plate scoring two runs. Gallman went 1-for-1 with a home run, three runs and three RBIs. Morris also had three RBIs while going 1-for-5 at the dish. Carley Bailey went 2-for-3 with a RBI. Ellen had two RBIs and Stiles had another impressive game going 3-for-4 with an RBI. 

Tabitha Allen (8-6) was dominant inside the circle all afternoon. In game one, Allen threw a complete game one-hit shutout and striking out six. In game two, she no-hit the Golden Bulls in three innings of work.

The Cobras will return home for a non-conference double header against the Young Harris College Mountain Lions. Game one is slated to begin at 1 p.m. at Saleeby-Stokes softball field.
