Coker Softball Takes on Mars Hill in SAC Showdown

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker College softball team will play host the Lions of Mars Hill in a South Atlantic Conference doubleheader on Sunday (Mar. 30).

The Cobras are coming off a two game split with the Royals of Queens University of Charlotte. They took game one of the doubleheader 7-4, then dropped game two 11-9.

Offensively the Navy and Yellow are led by junior Katelyn Szupello and senior Sydney Weatherford. Szupello leads the team in batting average with a .365 average and in triples with four. Her four triples are also second best in the conference. Weatherford leads the team in RBIs and home runs. After her performance against Queens where she went 5-of-7 from the plate with three home runs and seven RBIs, she is up to 28 RBIs and five homeruns on the season to go along with a .326 batting average. Her 28 RBIs are good enough for sixth best in the conference. 

Lauren Phillips leads the Coker pitching staff with a 7-6 record on the season. Her 3.92 ERA and 78.2 inning pitched are both team leaders.

Mars Hill comes into the contest with a 14-12 record. They are led offensively by Jamie Hockaday who comes to Hartsville with a .468 batting average and 39 RBIs. Both totals are in the top three in the conference. Jamie Booze leads the pitching staff with a 4-1 record on the season.

Game one of the doubleheader is set to begin at 1:00 p.m. at the Saleeby-Stokes softball field with game two slated to begin at 3 p.m.  Live stats can be found at www.cokercobras.com
