Cobras Rally To Capture Game Two Victory

MISENHEIMER, NC - The Coker softball team split their double-header series with Conference Carolinas foe Pfeiffer University on Sunday (Mar. 17).  Coker is 16-10 on the year, with a conference record of 9-5.

In game one Coker would strike first thanks to a solo homerun from senior outfielder Sarah Rountree in the first at bat of the game. However, that is the single run that the Cobras would score, as Pfeiffer rallied back with three runs in the bottom of the fifth to take a 3-1 victory.

Game two featured a scoring spree from both teams, as there were runs scored in each inning except for two.

Coker started off with two runs in the first inning, but the Falcons would respond with two runs of their own to tie the game.  Suddenly, the navy and yellow found themselves down 8-3 after Pfeiffer scored six runs in the third.  Coker would add another run in the fifth, but still trailed by four runs as they entered the top of the seventh.

Sydney Weatherford then stepped to the plate and launched a double to left field.  With Weatherford threatening, shortstop Jaclin Poole would then single to drive in the RBI. Dallas Sweat then connected on a double to drive in two more RBIs to make it a one run game. Rountree then stepped to the plate and hit a three run homer to score the sixth run of the inning allowing Coker to take a 10-8 lead.

Pfeiffer would go on to score a run in the top of the seventh, but the Cobras would hold on to the lead and preserve the 10-9 game two win.

Coker will return home on Tuesday (Mar. 19) to host Millersville in a nonconference double-header.  Game one will begin at 2:00 p.m., followed by game two at 4:00 p.m.
